## What is the SchoolMaker MCP server?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a standard way for AI assistants to use other apps. The SchoolMaker MCP server makes your school one of those apps. Once connected, ChatGPT or Claude can read your courses, students and community, and make changes for you, with your own SchoolMaker account and permissions.

## Six prompts to try with ChatGPT or Claude

Copy a prompt after connecting SchoolMaker. Replace the details in brackets with your own, and ask your assistant to check the result.
### Build a course from your outline

Turn your structure into a draft course with modules and lessons, then refine it in SchoolMaker.

> Create an unpublished course called [course name] using this outline: [paste outline]. Create a module for each main topic and a text lesson for each subtopic. Read back the structure when you’re done.
### Add quizzes and practical steps

Help students put a lesson into practice with quiz questions, exercises, or a feedback form.

> Read [lesson name] in [course name]. Add an unpublished multiple-choice quiz step with 5 questions based on the lesson and explain the correct answers. Preserve the lesson’s current publication status and read back the quiz for my review.
### Understand one student’s progress

Check accessible courses, progress, and unfinished lessons before deciding how to help.

> Look up the student with email [email]. Show their course progress and started but unfinished lessons. Suggest a useful next step for each course, based only on the information you find.
### Prepare a community conversation

Read recent posts to understand what your students are discussing, then write a relevant follow-up.

> Read the 10 latest posts in [community space]. Summarize the recurring questions and draft a helpful follow-up post here in the chat. Wait for me to approve it before posting.
### Put together your next offer

Create an unpublished offer, select its courses, and check what members will get access to.

> Create an unpublished offer called [offer name] that includes [course names]. Give access for [duration]. Read back its included courses and access settings. Keep it unpublished.
### Adapt a course for a new cohort

Duplicate an existing course and update its content for a different audience.

> Duplicate [course name] for my next cohort. Call the copy [new name] and keep it unpublished. Wait for the copy to finish, then show me its structure before making any other changes.
## How to connect SchoolMaker to ChatGPT or Claude

You need a SchoolMaker school and an owner or administrator account. You sign in to authorize the connection, so there is no API key to create.

SchoolMaker MCP server URL: `https://schoolmaker.co/mcp`

1. **Add SchoolMaker to your AI assistant** Copy the server URL above, then follow the steps for the assistant you use.
2. **Sign in and choose your school** On the SchoolMaker page that opens, log in with your owner or administrator account. Select the school you want to connect, check the account shown, then click “Allow connection”.
3. **Start with a simple question** Ask “List my courses.” Check the result, then try one of the prompts above. Open your SchoolMaker school to review any content you create or change.
### ChatGPT

1. Open [ChatGPT Plugins](https://chatgpt.com/plugins) in your browser.
2. Open the “Add” dropdown and select “Create Custom MCP Server”.
3. Name it SchoolMaker and paste the URL into “Server URL”.
4. Choose “OAuth” for authentication.
5. Check the consent checkbox and create the plugin.
6. Continue the connection. If you missed this step, open the plugin you created and click “Install plugin”.
### Claude

1. Open [Claude Connectors](https://claude.ai/customize/connectors) in your browser.
2. Select “+ Add”, then “Add custom connector”.
3. Name it SchoolMaker, paste the URL and click “Continue”.
4. Under “Authentication”, select “Sign in now”.
5. Under “OAuth client”, select “Register automatically”.
6. Click “Add”, then “Connect”.

On Claude Team or Enterprise, an organization owner first adds SchoolMaker as a custom web connector in the organization settings.

Menu names in ChatGPT and Claude can change, and your AI provider may require a plan that allows custom connectors. Other AI tools can connect if they support remote MCP servers with OAuth sign-in. You’ll find this URL and the same instructions in the MCP tab of your school settings.

## Connected to your account, with your permissions.
### Access stays within your school

The connection is tied to the account and school you authorize. SchoolMaker checks your current permissions and your access to the requested content for every action.
### Review changes before they go live

Ask for new courses and offers to stay unpublished. Edits and deletions can take effect immediately, so keep your AI tool’s approval prompts on for actions that change your school.
### Disconnect whenever you want

Remove a connection from the MCP tab of your school settings. Your assistant can read what your account can see, including your SchoolMaker messages, and that information is processed by your AI provider under its own terms.

## Questions about SchoolMaker MCP
### What can I do with the SchoolMaker MCP server?

You can use a connected AI assistant to create and edit courses, modules, lessons, quizzes and forms; look up students and their progress; read and write community posts; and set up offers. Available tools depend on your account permissions, and your school’s usual limits still apply.
### Does SchoolMaker MCP work with ChatGPT and Claude?

Yes. SchoolMaker gives step-by-step setup instructions for both ChatGPT and Claude. Other AI tools can connect if they support remote MCP servers over HTTP with OAuth sign-in. Your AI provider may require a plan that allows custom connectors.
### Who can connect a SchoolMaker school?

School owners and administrators can authorize the connection. Students and moderators cannot connect yet. Sign in with the team account for the school you want your assistant to use.
### Do I need to code or create an API key?

No. Add https://schoolmaker.co/mcp to ChatGPT, Claude or another compatible AI tool, sign in to SchoolMaker and allow the connection. There is no SchoolMaker API key to create or paste.
### Can the AI publish or delete content?

Yes, where your account has permission. Ask for new courses and offers to remain unpublished while you review them. Do not assume every action creates a draft: edits and deletions can take effect immediately. Review write requests in your AI tool before approving them.
### Can I start with a free trial?

Start a 14-day SchoolMaker free trial to create your school, then connect with your owner account. Your school’s plan limits still apply. Your AI assistant is a separate service with its own access requirements and possible costs.
### What’s the difference between MCP, an API, and an AI Coach?

MCP lets an AI assistant such as ChatGPT or Claude use SchoolMaker tools from a conversation. The API connects SchoolMaker to scripts and other software. An AI Coach answers your students’ questions inside your school. Choose the connection that fits the work you want to do.
